EOC-Led Coalition Named a Finalist for the 2026 Good Fight Prize
The Coalition to Bring Employee Ownership Trusts to Canada has been named one of three finalists for the Atkinson Foundation’s 2026 Good Fight Prize. The prize recognizes campaigns that bring people together to make work decent for everyone.
The coalition is led by Employee Ownership Canada, Social Capital Partners, the Canadian Employee Ownership Coalition, and The Learning Enrichment Foundation. The Canadian Employee Ownership Coalition’s steering committee includes Rewrite, Friesens, Raise Recruiting, BMO, and Social Capital Partners. The Atkinson Foundation recognized the campaign for changing federal policy so that workers can more easily become shared owners of the businesses they work for. That change helps workers build wealth and economic security and makes communities more economically resilient. As a finalist, the coalition receives $25,000 to continue its work.
The 2026 prize was awarded on November 3. Congratulations to the United We Are Stronger Campaign, led by Migrant Workers Alliance for Change, this year’s winner. The third finalist was ACORN Canada’s Resist Renovictions Campaign. Both campaigns are doing vital work for Canadian workers.
This recognition reflects years of collective effort. Business leaders, advisors, employee-owners, and Canadians from across the country added their names to letters, shared their stories with media, and met with policymakers. Their work helped secure Employee Ownership Trusts in law and, this spring, made the $10 million capital gains tax exemption on sales to EOTs permanent.
With permanent policy in place, our focus now turns to growth: helping more business owners, advisors, and employees understand how employee ownership can work for them.
Thank you to the Atkinson Foundation for more than 80 years of standing with those who fight for decent work.
